Experiencing hair loss due to birth control pills ?

Im 18 and started taking the Yasmin contraceptive pill 8 months ago. I noticed after 1 month of being on it that my hair had started to thin in a patch at the back right of my head on the side. The rest of my hair was otherwise still thick and healthy looking. Months have gone past and that area of thinning seems to have increased and after the 1st day of clean hair it becomes more noticeable and you can see the scalp. Still the rest of my hair appears to be unaffected.

Ive heard that birth control pills can cause hair loss and wonder if this may be the reason for mine.

Has anyone else experienced this while being on yasmin ?

and if you did experience hair loss did it eventually stop ?

Im so stressed out about this which probably isn't helping, i just want my hair to go back to normal.

Yasmin is a combination of drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Loss of scalp hair is a reported side effect of this medication. The hair loss from most birth control pills is benign and self limited. Losing hair in this situation is thought to be through inducing hair follicles to go into the telogen phase. You should stop taking Yasmin and speak to your doctor regarding alternative birth control medications or methods.Experiencing hair loss due to birth control pills ?
Using birth control pills can cause hair loss. It is a problem many women have. It is temporary though, so if and when you stop using them, your hair loss problem will be solved. You can also go to a women's hair loss salon, for solutions to your hair loss until your hair grows back.
I have never tried Yasmin but I suggest that you talk to your doctor.

I think that maybe once you try a different contraception and get this one out of your system that your hair will grow back.

Even if it does not, there are contraception pills such as Dianette that can stimulate hair growth so try not to worry as this only makes the problem worse. Make an appointment with your GP and I'm sure this will be sorted out soon x
Yes , I too lost my hair while on bc. I was taking loestrin and was losing my hair by the handful. Stopped taking it and my hair grew back, I had little spikes of new hair growth within a month. It is a very rare side effect but it does happen! Good Luck.
Hi, I recommend you to read all the reasons of hair loss, i have found an article and its good informative. Please read it and pass it on , best of luck :)

One of the side effects of oral contraceptives is hair loss. It is a normal thing but if you are worried about it, consult your doctor about the issue.
